Deadpool Will Definitely Appear In MCU Films After Disney/Fox Deal

Though the main X-Men series has lost some of its momentum with fans and filmgoers in recent years, Ryan Reynolds is currently on a hot streak with the Deadpool movies that Disney looks set to continue once the Fox merger comes into effect. Though the main X-Men series has lost some of its momentum with fans and filmgoers in recent years, Ryan Reynolds is currently on a hot streak with the Deadpool movies that Disney looks set to continue once the Fox merger comes into effect. And while Wade Wilson’s current cinematic universe seems to be entering its closing chapters with Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants, it seems that the Merc with a Mouth will find a new home as part of the MCU.

According to sources close to WGTC, Marvel Studios will “110%” be putting Deadpool into various Marvel Cinematic Universe releases. This will reportedly include PG-13 films, though Wade’s own solo movies will continue to be R-rated.

Continuity-wise, it’s unclear how Disney intends to pull this off, seeing how the Deadpool series is already well established to be part of a separate reality. Still, if there’s any Marvel character who can get away with defying the laws of universe cohesion, surely it would be this notorious fourth-wall-breaker. Whether or not his various co-stars like Colossus and Cable will be able to follow him into the next world, however, is another matter entirely. After all, can the MCU really handle two major Josh Brolin characters?

In any case, though the Disney/Fox deal is expected to close this month, it’s unlikely that Marvel Studios will be officially announcing any future Deadpool outings at least until after Avengers: Endgame comes out in April.

Regardless, it looks like Reynolds and his co-writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick will be pushing forward with their plans for Deadpool 3, which Reynolds teased earlier this year will go in a “completely different direction” from the previous films. Time will tell what exactly he means by this, though it’s unlikely that the fresh approach will see the Merc getting any more family-friendly.
