Over the past two-to-three years, Warner Bros. has been a little guilty of stealth announcing potential spinoff movies without much foresight, which has, in some cases, resulted in those fabled projects slipping off the radar and into the murky depths of obscurity.
Gotham City Sirens, Justice League 2, and the Joker/Harley Quinn offshoot spring to mind as recent examples, but according to a new report, we can now scratch Deadshot and Lobo off the list of upcoming DC projects.
Truth be told, neither film has managed to retain a sense of momentum over the past 24 months, though many had assumed Warner Bros. would cash-in on Will Smith’s DCEU career by placing Deadshot on the fast-track. Sadly, that’s not the case, while Lobo has been languishing on the brink of development for as long as we can remember – heck, Jason Momoa was initially under the impression he was being courted by Warner for the role of Lobo, not Aquaman.
And so, with news that Warner Bros. is implementing a major shake-up over at DC Films – a shake-up that begins with the appointment of Walter Hamada as president – we’re now learning that Deadshot and Lobo have fallen by the wayside.
First spotted by Screen Rant, below you’ll find two tweets – one from Discussing Film; the other from industry sleuth Mario-Francisco Robles – that not only cast doubt on each project, but rule out their chances entirely.
EXCLUSIVE: Will Smith is not attached to star in a 'DEADSHOT' solo film with his next appearance as Deadshot most likely to be in 'SUICIDE SQUAD 2' which is said to film next year. pic.twitter.com/aApUUZ2zOr

It joins #Lobo now, on the "Island Of DC Films That Were Kinda Sorta Maybe Happening But Now Aren't." https://t.co/Zd3FlbG0DX

For Smith, his next foray into the DCEU will take the form of Suicide Squad 2, which has since drafted Gavin O’Connor in to replace the outgoing David Ayer (Bright). Lobo, on the other hand, once caught the eye of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, whose schedule has now become so busy and intense that it’s a wonder he finds time to sleep. In short, don’t hold out hope – even if these reports are eventually debunked.
