The star and creator of FX’s series Rescue Me, Denis Leary, has joined the cast of Marc Webb’s reboot of the Spiderman franchise. Indiewire is reporting that he’s in talks to grab the role of Emma Stone’s father. Remember, Stone isn’t playing Mary Jane Watson, but Gwen Stacy.

Andrew Garfield will be playing Peter Parker, Stone will be Gwen, Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben, and Sally Field will be playing Aunt May. There is one particularly juicy rumor going around that Zooey Deschanel (who starred in Marc Webb’s previous film (500) Days of Summer) may join the cast as well. But that has yet to be confirmed. Shooting could start as early as next month, and there’s a good chance it’ll be done in 3D. July 3rd, 2011 is the planned release date.

What do you think about the casting? I personally can’t recall anything I’ve seen with Leary in it. Does he have the acting chops to match Garfield and Stone?
