We found out yesterday who Mads Mikkelsen will be playing in Doctor Strange, and we now know which character Rachel McAdams will be starring as in this highly anticipated Phase 3 movie. Well, sort of.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has dropped some fresh intel about her role, and while a name hasn’t been provided, it definitely sounds as if McAdams is going to be playing an updated version of Night Nurse.

“Rachel McAdams plays a fellow surgeon that has a history with Strange and is his sort of lynchpin to his old life, once he steps into he role of a sorcerer. She is someone he connects with at the beginning, and reconnects with, and helps anchor his humanity.”

For those of you unfamiliar with Night Nurse, she was a love interest of Doctor Strange’s who spent her nights patching up New York City’s superheroes. However, with the lack of secret identities in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, that character wouldn’t really work, hence why we’re getting something new here.

Doctor Strange executive producer Stephen Broussard also chimed in on the kind of role McAdams will play, giving us even more of an idea of what to expect:

“Rachel McAdams is sort of [Doctor Strange’s] contemporary in the modern-day New York world, before and after he goes on this crazy journey. So, she sees him before, she sees him after. She’s kind of this audience point of view.”

That’s definitely intriguing, and with Benedict Cumberbatch confirming that she’ll be a love interest of sorts for his Sorcerer Supreme, this is clearly going to be a big role for the actress.
