Disney’s one ‘Star Wars’ venture more questionable than ‘Rise of Skywalker’ is being sent to the farm

For obvious reasons, not everyone was into the idea to begin with.

Most people are used to Disney making some highly questionable decisions by now, so when it launched an ultra-expensive Star Wars hotel experience, no one was too surprised. Now, though, as the company prepares to pull the plug on it, the public can’t gather more than an “I told you so.”

The Star Wars: Galactic Starcruise package experience opened in March 2022 at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, and despite earning stellar reviews from satisfied guests, it will officially close down this September. At the time of writing, Disney is yet to clarify the reason behind this decision, but it’s not hard to take a guess when we look at the exorbitant prices.

Just a one-night, two-day stay for two people sharing a room costs $2,405 per person, but prices can reportedly go up to $20,000 if guests opt for the premium experience. Needless to say, most fans aren’t willing to spend that much money even for a unique Star Wars immersive experience, something Disney has reportedly been struggling with.

In an official statement (per The Independent), the company addressed the decision to close the hotel doors:

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is one of our most creative projects ever and has been praised by our guests and recognized for setting a new bar for innovation and immersive entertainment. This premium, boutique experience gave us the opportunity to try new things on a smaller scale of 100 rooms, and as we prepare for its final voyage, we will take what we’ve learned to create future experiences that can reach more of our guests and fans.”

Creative as it may be, Star Wars: Galactic Starcruise is simply not for everyone, and it shows. For those who still wish to give it a go, though: it’s now or never.
