With David Fincher‘s The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo being tagged as ‘the feel bad movie of Christmas’, we can expect the same next year when Quentin Tarantino‘s new Western Django Unchained opens. The Weinstein Company have announced that it will be released on Christmas Day. It could be a risky move for the company but if Sony Pictures release plan tacks on for Dragon Tattoo then there is no reason why it won’t work. Plus, last year True Grit opened at Christmas. Like Django Unchained, the film was a Western, and it raked in nearly $250 million.
Django Unchained is currently set to shoot later on in the year. Christoph Waltz and Samuel L Jackson are signed on, with Leonardo DiCaprio also believed to have joined as the film’s villain. Plus Jamie Foxx is now the frontrunner for the lead role of escaped slave Django.
