It’s finally here! The official trailer for Quentin Tarantino‘s Django Unchained has arrived and it comes complete with Leonardo DiCaprio‘s scenery chewing, Jamie Foxx‘s bid for another Oscar win and Christoph Waltz in what looks to be another excellent role for the talented actor.

In all seriousness though, the film does look very good and very Taratino-esque, which may turn a lot of heads. This is a film dealing with a very serious subject matter: slavery, but parts of it do look kitsch and camp, which could upset a lot of people.

On the other hand, the fact that it doesn’t look to be a po-faced movie, weighted down by its own worthiness, could be something of a blessing. This is definitely a film that could only come out of Tarantino, and we were forewarned by many of the actors that this is certainly controversial stuff.

The trailer doesn’t give us much beyond showing off the relationship between Jamie Foxx and Christoph Waltz, who appear to be dynamite together. Foxx looks suitably kick-ass as freed slave Django and Waltz’ persona is a perfect fit in the role of Dr. King Shultz, this gentlemanly, verbose character who, like all Tarantino characters, puts his mouth first.

We don’t get much of Leonardo DiCaprio‘s Calvin Candie but what we get is highly promising. This is a role that DiCaprio has (overtly) stuck his teeth into and he appears to be enjoying the hell out of playing an entirely villainous character after years of portraying the golden hearted good guy.

The anticipation and buzz is most definitely deserved and those skeptical of the director tackling the Spaghetti Western genre can now put their worries to rest. He looks to be both reinventing a form whilst referring back to the Sergio Leone movies he loves.

Django Unchained opens on December 25th and judging by this trailer, I’ll definitely be there on opening day to catch the latest from the twisted mind of QT.

Fandango has released the official trailer on their website, and you can watch the embed here. Enjoy!
