Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hits theaters in May and promises yet more exploration of MCU’s expansive multiverse. We know we’re getting the return of What If…?‘s Strange Supreme, more of Chiwetel Ejiofor’s Mordo, and a post-WandaVision reunion with Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff.
The first trailer reveals that Strange’s spells during Spider-Man: No Way Home have consequences, with him being called to account for his actions. Along the way, he’s going to meet up with a character who could prove to be a major player in the MCU: Xochitl Gomez’ America Chavez.
Now, with the last reshoots having concluded, Gomez celebrated by posting a dance on TikTok. Check it out:
Also known as Miss America, Chavez made her Marvel Comics debut in 2011 and ⏤ appropriately for this movie ⏤ has powers that include traveling between alternate realities. Marvel Studios may have big plans for the character going forward, as, in a Hawkeye comic, a possible future showed her as the successor to Captain America.
It seems like Marvel Studios is not-so-quietly assembling an all-female Young Avengers team at the moment, with Yelena Belova, Kate Bishop, Cassie Lang, Kamala Khan, Riri Williams, and America Chavez all being established in movies and Disney Plus shows. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a team-up in the near future, as these characters broadly map onto the ‘classic’ 2012 Avengers team and could fill the same roles.
But, for now, I’m looking forward to a new trailer for Multiverse of Madness that properly introduces us to Chavez and shows off her awesome power set.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will hit theaters on May 6, 2022.
