Does Gale Weathers die in ‘Scream VI?’

A lucky escape?

Gale Weathers, played by Courteney Cox, has remained a recurrent presence throughout the entire Scream franchise (even more than the primary protagonist and final girl, Sydney Prescott) somehow managing to defy the odds in every one of her encounters with Ghostface and escape with her life.

This is until Scream VI, a recent addition to the franchise, where severe injuries inflicted upon Weathers have led many to wonder whether she finally succumbed to the killer’s brutalities. Let’s shed some light on Weathers’ fate at the climax of this year’s sequel.

Scream VI is the newest addition to the saga where we encounter some fresh faces, the goriest deaths, and a mind-boggling twist towards the end concerning the identity of the Ghostface.

This is undoubtedly one of the best movies of the slasher franchise which has witnessed the comeback of a few iconic characters from the previous films including the Carpenter sisters, Sam (Melissa Barrera), Tara (Jenna Ortega), Gale Weathers (Courtney Cox) and Kirby Reed from Scream III.

However, Gale stands out amongst them all, primarily due to the significance she holds in every tale of the Ghostface murder spree and profiting off the victims’ survival. Not to mention, she met with some sudden attacks which she managed to barely escape and survive. Scream VI made things a little more difficult for Gale as in the film’s second half, we see her struggling with Ghostface alone.

It so happens that Gale, along with sisters Tara and Sam, seemingly tracked down Ghostface to a creepy warehouse where they happen to discover souvenirs from the Stab movies which are based on the actual carnage by the killer Ghostface.

The sisters then attempt to lure the killer into Central Park. Sadly, their plan backfires as it turns out that Ghostface tricks them and follows Gale into her New York penthouse, killing her boyfriend and subsequently attacking and injuring her with multiple stabs.

As she lies on the ground profusely bleeding, the killer raises the knife to finally end her for good, only to be interrupted by Sam and Tara, who drive the assailant away. Gale blurts out her last words, “Tell Sydney he never got me” before being transported to the hospital, ultimately surviving her injuries, for now.

The significance of Gale being alive is unknown, but it’s safe to assume that the inevitable Scream VII will further the character’s story.
