Neither the Mad Titan nor those wayward Infinity Stones will play much of a part in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

That’s something that James Gunn has touched on in the past, but over the weekend, the director’s ever-active Facebook feed revealed that the Infinity Stones will be totally absent from next year’s spacefaring sequel.

Truth be told, it’s not all too surprising that Josh Brolin’s galactic menace is being reserved for Marvel’s two-part Infinity War – incidentally, the second chapter is now in line to be retitled – and though two of the Infinity Gauntlet’s Stones are still to be located, those precious gems won’t rear their head in Guardians 2.

When he’s not soliciting questions regarding Marvel’s Infinity Stones, James Gunn has been covering a range of topics relating to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. One particular tidbit to note is that, despite Gunn and Co. revealing the identity of Star-Lord’s father at San Diego Comic-Con, knowing who Papa Quill is won’t impact your enjoyment of the 2017 sequel.

Speaking of Star-Lord, Chris Pratt is on board to reprise his defining role, joining a motley crew that comprises Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), Drax (Dave Bautista) and a baby Groot (Vin Diesel). They’ll be going up against an army of Ravagers in Guardians 2, while also contending with Elizabeth Debicki’s Ayesha. Kurt Russell and Sylvester Stallone also star.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is earmarked for release on May 5, 2017.
