Director Doug Liman‘s long gestating sci-fi project Luna is now on the fast track at Paramount Pictures. In development since 2007, Luna is the story of “ex-space employees who travel the world stealing equipment in an effort to return to the moon. All they need is an ex-NASA employee who they plan to kidnap.”

Casting rumors for Luna have centered on Hangover star Bradley Cooper, newly minted Spiderman Andrew Garfield, Megan Fox, Avatar‘s Zoe Saldana, Star Trek‘s Chris Pine and Captain America star Chris Evans. So far no one has officially committed and not all of these rising stars will end up signing on.

Bradley Cooper has been rumored for seemingly dozens of roles lately including a rumored reboot of The Crow franchise and the crime drama The Place Beyond the Pines. Garfield is tied up with The Amazing Spiderman for now and with sequels in the works he isa longshot for Luna.

Having dropped out of Transformers, Megan Fox has time on her hands while Zoe Saldana has a pair of Avatar sequels in the works. Most intriguing is Chris Pine who just heard from director J.J Abrams that the sequel to Star Trek will be delayed until at least 2013, leaving a possible opening in his schedule.

Director Doug Liman was last on the big screen with the critically beloved but little seen drama Fair Game, based on the Valerie Plame scandal. His next project, according to IMDB, is a TV pilot for MTV called I Just Want My Pants Back which has yet to get an airdate. Doug Liman’s other foray into TV, the USA series Covert Affairs starring Piper Perabo, returns for a second season Tuesday, June 7th.
