Dwayne Johnson and Zachary Levi’s Comic-Con stand-off is sending fans’ imaginations into overdrive

Yet another Shazam/Black Adam meeting we didn't get to see.

Shazam and Black Adam are mortal enemies in the comics, and honestly it appears that there’s not much love lost between Zachary Levi and Dwayne Johnson either. In the wake of Black Adam failing to land last fall and now Shazam! Fury of the Gods underwhelming at the box office, fresh details are spilling out concerning the creative clashes between the two leading men’s franchises.

Case in point, a new report is claiming that Johnson blocked Levi from turning up in a Black Adam post-credits scene, something that the Shazam actor basically confirmed was exactly the case in a pointed Instagram post that threw some serious shade on The Rock. While the duo are destined to never meet on screen in the DCU, then, it turns out the duo have encountered each other at Comic-Con one time. And the photographic evidence makes it look like it wasn’t a laugh riot.

The folks over on the r/DC_Cinematic subreddit have shared a snap of Levi and Johnson conversing at SDCC 2022. Obviously the moment could be taken out of context, but the thoroughly unamused look on Levi’s face is speaking volumes in light of their apparent behind-the-scenes differences. So naturally DC fans are having way too much fun wondering, as the OP put it, what the two actors cooked up during this meeting.

Maybe Levi just laid it all out?

Ooh, they went there.

Ouch.

Whatever they were cooking, it tasted disappointing.

Kudos to user E_yal for this one: “A dc crisis event but the wrong kind.”

But the top-voted comment put it best. We all know what Dwayne and Zach really cooked up that day…

The fact that Shazam and Black Adam’s epic rivalry played out entirely off-screen is definitely going to go down as one of the great (and ironic) tragedies of the defunct DCU, along with the curse of Henry Cavill and the disappearance of Batfleck. If you’re so inclined, Shazam! Fury of the Gods is playing in theaters now.
