Chris Evans Avengers Infinity War

Dwayne Johnson Congratulates Chris Evans On His Run As Captain America

Though we’re still many months away from seeing Marvel’s Phase 3 come to a close, for some of the franchise’s biggest stars, this current era of superhero spectacle is, on some level, already over. A couple of weeks ago, Chris Hemsworth took to Instagram to confirm that his Avengers 4 reshoots had wrapped, suggesting that the Thor actor is finally stepping away from his role as the god of thunder. But the more recent social media activity that’s got the internet feeling all sentimental is from an “eternally grateful” Chris Evans, who posted a heartfelt tweet announcing that he too is finished with both the Avengers: Infinity War sequel, and the character of Captain America.

With the star’s Disney contract now up, it looks like Evans is hanging up the shield for at least the foreseeable future, and even Deadpool himself, Ryan Reynolds, can’t hide his sadness. Now, fellow action star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has taken to twitter to congratulate Evans on a successful run as the First Avenger:

What a run you had brother. Congrats on breathing life into such an iconic character. Keep on keepin’ on

Evans’ original tweet saw the actor thank his colleagues and his audience for all the memories he’s collected in these last eight years, saying his run as Steve Rogers has been an honor.

While nothing is directly mentioned about the content of Cap’s final film, many fans have understandably interpreted this tweet as evidence that the character won’t to live to see the end of Avengers 4. We still have over half a year to speculate on that possibility, but either way, you can expect an emotional finale for Evans when this highly anticipated movie hits theaters on May 3rd, 2019.
