Dwayne Johnson piggybacks the MCU’s misery to secure a release date for the ‘Moana’ remake nobody asked for

You're welcome.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s loss has proven to be Dwayne Johnson‘s gain, with his live-action remake of Moana being awarded a release date in the midst of Disney’s latest industry-shaking reshuffle.

While the superhero franchise has been cursed by wide-ranging delays yet again after the majority of the Multiverse Saga’s remaining projects were kicked back with the sole exception of Deadpool 3, the do-over of the 2016 animated classic that was only announced a couple of months ago will be sailing into theaters on June 27 of 2025, ensuring that the A-lister won’t be resting on his laurels following a couple of high-profile recent setbacks.

That’s a seriously quick turnaround considering the scale of what Moana will need to look like in live-action, but with a director already in place and Johnson both reprising his role as Maui and producing through his Seven Bucks banner, the wheels are turning exceedingly quickly. Of course, this will inevitably lead to questions over whether his Fast & Furious return will go in front of cameras first, but The Rock doesn’t call himself the hardest worker in the room for nothing.

Kevin Feige’s all-conquering outfit may have sent its fans into meltdown after dashing their hopes and dreams by way of an extended wait for virtually everything coming down the pipeline, but at least the summer of 2025 will have Johnson singing “You’re Welcome” in the flesh instead of watching the Avengers reassemble to take down the Multiverse Saga’s big bad, and that’s got to count for something, right? Right…?
