Early Reviews For Spider-Man: Homecoming Almost Brought Tom Holland To Tears

Tom Holland, lead star of Spider-Man: Homecoming, has revealed that he was almost moved to tears upon reading the film's overly positive reviews.

We are, at the time of writing, little over two days out from the long-anticipated launch of Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Marvel fans – us included! – are currently beside themselves with excitement. But they aren’t the only ones.

In a video interview with Collider (with a tip of the hat to Screen Rant), lead star Tom Holland recalled the moment when he was almost brought to tears while reading Homecoming‘s initial wave of reviews. Truth be told, Jon Watts’ franchise reset – the second reboot of our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man in the space of six years – has fared overly well among critics, and in his own review, WGTC critic Robert Yaniz Jr. deemed Homecoming to be “one of the character’s strongest films to date, granting him a clean slate and infinite room to grow.” High praise indeed, particularly for a film that arguably ran the risk of spoiling a fair chunk of Peter Parker’s high school adventure with countless trailers.

However that may be, it’s small wonder why Holland reacted as such, and if there was ever any doubt that Marvel has selected the perfect actor to play Peter Parker in the MCU, let it be known that Holland holds a deep attachment to the part.

Per Collider:

I have been on Twitter and it’s been blowing my mind. I woke up this morning and nearly cried. I genuinely nearly had tears falling down my face. You’re on set for 15 hours a day in that suit and it is hard work. It really is hard. It’s long, its tough – people do a lot harder jobs – but, that said, I put my heart and soul in this movie, and to see that people are enjoying it is so amazing to me.

Word is that Holland’s attachment to Spidey will span five Marvel movies in total, two of which we know to be Avengers: Infinity War and the as-yet-untitled Homecoming sequel. As things stand, those two tentpoles are slated for release on May 4th, 2018 and July 5th, 2019, respectively, so Tom Holland has still got plenty of mileage left in the tank when it comes to blockbuster superhero movies.

Spider-Man: Homecoming, meanwhile, will be with us on July 7th.
