Edgar Wright’s The World’s End Gets Green Light And A Teaser Poster

Edgar Wright is another one of those directors that makes my ears prick up whenever his name is mentioned. He has become something of a cult phenomenon. He started to become well-known with a little show called Spaced, before eventually moving on to what most people know him for: Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, two hilarious films that were parodies of the zombie and action genres, respectively.

Most recently he gave us the excellent adaptation of the Scott Pilgrim graphic novels, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, which was a great mix of comedy, action, and video games.

People have been speculating as to what Wright’s next project would be, with many thinking that he would move on to direct the Ant-Man movie. However, there has always been the last part of the so called “Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy,” which started with Shaun and Hot Fuzz, lingering in the background.

Well, today, not only do we have word that the last part of the trilogy, The World’s End, has been given the green light, but we also have the first teaser poster straight from Comic-Con.

Here’s what the film is about:

The film starts 20 years after five childhood friends attempted an epic pub crawl. The friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their home town and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub, The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.

As everyone already figured, the film is set to star Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, who haven’t been seen together on screen since the disappointing Paul that they co-wrote together. With Wright reteaming with Pegg to write the script for The World’s End, which was the case for both previous parts of the trilogy, hopefully things will go back to being hilarious.

From the synopsis, it’s certainly not hard to picture Pegg and Frost in this. It sounds like a good kind of backdrop for Pegg and Wright to throw in plenty of bizarre hijinks and several memorable quotes, as we’re so accustomed to getting from their films. I’m certainly looking forward to it as I thoroughly enjoyed the other two films, plus I quite enjoy Wright’s work in general.

Filming is set to begin in October with the film to be distributed domestically by Focus Features. A release date is not currently set.
