Now that the DC Extended Universe is kicking into high gear, and with no shortage of movies being spun from Batman’s corner of it to boot, it’s only a matter of time before casting news pertaining to the iconic characters to be featured arrives. One such highly anticipated movie is that of Gotham City Sirens, which is set to be directed by David Ayer and will unite Harley Quinn, Catwoman and Poison Ivy for the first time on the big screen.
Now, we already know that Margot Robbie will be reprising her role of the Clown Princess of Crime, having previously debuted in 2016’s Suicide Squad. So, while we all wait with bated breath hoping to find out who’ll play her cohorts, the expected fan casting and speculation that comes along with is already underway.
The latest round comes to us via Reddit, our last bastion of truth. As it so happens, one user was quick to notice that actress Eiza Gonzalez (Baby Driver) recently posted a few photos on Instagram (seen below) that feature her wearing black clothing, prompting them to immediately connect the dots to her possibly playing Catwoman. Well, there’s that and her caption of “The uniform lately,” but I’ve favored black clothing for the better part of my life and nobody has bothered to cast me as Batman.
Anyway, other Reddit users were quick to point out that she has once visited the Warner Bros. lot (she is an actress, mind you), once posted a picture of herself with a box of comics and – here’s the clincher – she and DC head honcho Geoff Johns follow each other on social media. So, much like Armie Hammer, that makes her a lock for the DCEU, right? In the eyes of some fans it does, at least.
Truth be told, we can’t rule out the possibility that it’ll all work out and that Gonzalez will, in fact, be cast as Selina Kyle in Gotham City Sirens. As a lifelong fan of the character, I personally think she’d make a pretty good fit. Heck, we’ve even seen recent indicators that the film will arrive much sooner than expected, so let’s just hope that we don’t have to play the waiting game much longer.
