‘Elemental’s box office crash could have been diverted if Disney hadn’t peddled it as a love story

'Elemental' could have been better if it focus on another element of its story.

Disney Pixar’s newest film, Elemental, has been met with positive reviews from both fans and critics. While the film’s story is pretty good and addresses some heavy topics, some viewers believe that there is one element in the story that could use some work.

It is being argued that Elemental would have been better off if it’s love story plot were removed. Fans claim that the film could have benefited if it had leaned more on the father-daughter story. One of the main story arcs in the film is about Ember’s takeover of her family’s restaurant, which they have run since moving to Element City. However, it is noticed that Ember might have other passions and interests outside the family business.

Moviegoers wish that this story arc was the main focus of the film, rather than the love story, especially since the film came out during Father’s Day weekend.

Viewers also called out the numerous promos that Pixar released which told potential moviegoers to see this film with their fathers. After all, it once shared a clip of a young Ember and her father, who taught her the significance of the blue flame and their culture.

Perhaps if the story didn’t lean too much on the love story, its box office performance wouldn’t have been as drastically low. The film earned itself over $29 million over the three-day weekend, making it on par with Toy Story‘s domestic opening performance back in 1995. But despite its love earnings, it gained an astonishing average audience score of 92 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

If you want to see this new Pixar film, Elemental is now showing in theaters.
