Twitch Film is reporting that Olsen has been offered the lead female role in the upcoming Oldboy remake, a role that both Rooney Mara and Mia Wasikowska were offered. Of course, those two turned it down and now it looks like Olsen may step up and take it. If she comes on board the Spike Lee directed film, she’ll join Josh Brolin, who will fill the lead male role.

Admittedly, I’m not sure how well this one will do. For some reason I just don’t see it going over very well with American audiences, unless of course it’s heavily watered down, which of course would just ruin it. That being said, I do think that Lee is a good choice to helm the film and the fact that he’s behind the camera does give me more faith.

I’m a big fan of the original Oldboy so to see it ruined would make me mighty upset. So many good foreign films are constantly being butchered when they become American remakes. It happens far too often and though something tells me that this may be the case with this one, I’m still holding out for a solid and worthy remake that will honor the original, which is an absolutely fantastic film.
