Little over a month ago, the Internet was sent into a tail-spin when news emerged that both Channing Tatum and pop icon Elton John were in contention for roles in Matthew Vaughn’s actioner, Kingsman: The Golden Circle.
With production now underway on Fox’s sequel, set photos emerged earlier this week that revealed a sharp-suited Tatum and now, completing that one-two punch, Elton John has taken to Instagram to confirm his casting in Vaughn’s hotly-anticipated romp.
Not since 1975 has the illustrious musician starred in a feature film, and had Matthew Vaughn got his way, Elton John could have made an appearance in 2014’s sleeper hit The Secret Service by, and we quote, “kicking the living daylights out of people.”
But there will surely be plenty of opportunities for the singer-songwriter to do so in Kingsman: The Golden Circle, and though no character details were disclosed, he now joins a cast that includes Taron Egerton, Halle Berry, Mark Strong, Julianne Moore, Game of Thrones‘ Pedro Pascal, along with a somewhat surprising appearance from an old friend.
Written and directed by Matthew Vaughn, Kingsman 2 will continue filming in London over the coming weeks. It features a script penned by Jane Goldman, lifting inspiration from Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons’ graphic novel.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle is on course to hit theaters on June 16, 2017. Below, you’ll find John’s Instagram poster, making a nod to his “Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting” song replete with his iconic star-shaped spectacles.
