Though The Avengers 2 is still a long ways off, set for a 2015 release, Marvel is already starting to put the pieces together for the hotly anticipated sequel. We know that the main cast from the first film will be returning but what about new additions?

Joss Whedon has already told us that there would be additional characters joining the film, but with the movie so far out, no one expected to hear anything on the matter until at least next year.

Well, it seems as if Marvel is getting the ball rolling early as we now have the first casting news for the upcoming sequel.

Today, Daily Mail is reporting that Looper‘s Emily Blunt and Luther‘s Ruth Wilson are both up for the role of Ms. Marvel in The Avengers 2. It’s also mentioned that production could begin as soon as next year.

Again, with the film still so far away, this news is best taken with a grain of salt. Marvel hasn’t confirmed anything and this could pan out to be completely false. That being said, I wouldn’t mind seeing Blunt as Ms. Marvel. It’s an inspired casting choice and one that I think could work out very well.

Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Cobie Smulders and Samuel L. Jackson will all return for The Avengers 2, which hits theatres on May 1st, 2015.

Let us know in the comments what you think of either Blunt or Wilson joining the cast.
