Emma Frost is finally joining the MCU… and fans are already fantasy-casting their white queen

Many fans already have their casting locked in.

Marvel Studios has been teasing the arrival of the X-Men for years. Along the way, we’ve seen multiple refugees from the Fox universe X-movies make their way to the MCU, most prominently Wolverine, Deadpool, Professor X, and Beast. Many more are coming back for Avengers: Doomsday, but sooner or later, they’ll ditch Fox’s legacy casting and strike out with an entirely new set of mutants.

Now, as per MCU Source, it seems fan-favorite mutant Emma Frost will soon be a major player in the MCU. Frost is one of Marvel’s most powerful psychics, rivalling Charles Xavier with her powers. She’s also a fierce physical combatant, able to transform her body into practically indestructible organic diamond. But, perhaps her most fearsome power is that she consistently serves in every possible manner.

Frost has already appeared in live-action in First Class played by January Jones, though she was killed offscreen sometime soon after. That such a prominent mutant should have such a dull fate is a crime, so the MCU had better do the white queen justice.

The fan casting begins

Fans are already feverishly fan-casting Frost. Top of the pile seems to be Sabrina Carpenter and though she is pretty great, I’m not sure she has the right gravitas for the part:

Another fan pick is Ariana Grande, who’s been underlining her acting chops in the Wicked movies:

Lady Gaga is also mooted, though would she return to a comic book movie after the Joker: Folie à Deux flop?

And, finally, an actual actor has entered the chat: could Sydney Sweeney redeem herself for Madame Web by knocking Emma Frost out of the park?

I’m fully anticipating Marvel Studios’ X-Men casting to be met by confused faces and “…Who?” comments. Remember, Disney will want to lock in their X-Men cast for at least seven or eight appearances over a decade plus, meaning that, like Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr, and Chris Evans before them, they’ll find it difficult to schedule other projects.

That means anyone with an established career (like, say, a pop star who’ll want to be touring and making music) is unlikely to be cast. If you really want to get some insight into who the MCU’s mutants will be, pay close attention to current streaming hits with teenage casts – that’s where Marvel Studios’ casting directors are looking!
