Emma Stone is looking to add another credit to her increasingly impressive resume as the actress is currently in negotiations for Gangster Squad. Rumors have circulated for a little while that she was being eyed and reportedly, her Crazy, Stupid, Love co-star Ryan Gosling asked her to join the film.

Now it’s official though as Variety reports that Stone, who is currently filming The Amazing Spider-Man, is is negotiations to play Jean, “a sharp-tongued siren caught in a love triangle with the characters played by Gosling and Sean Penn.”

Gangster Squad is based on a series of newspaper articles written in 2008. Paul Lieberman wrote the articles for the LA Times and it was instantly picked up by Warner Bros. The articles are based on the epic battle between a special unit of the LAPD and the migration of the East Coast Mafia to Los Angeles.

They focus on ringleader Mickey Cohen, played by Sean Penn,  who moved out west as muscle for Bugsy Seigal but soon started his own branch of the mafia in LA. The adaptation to the big screen was written by Will Beall, a former LA police officer that hung up his nightstick for the author’s chair.

Ruben Fleischer is set to direct the all star cast that includes Sean PennRyan GoslingJosh Brolin, Giovanni Ribisi, Michael Pena and Anthony Mackie.

With the cast that they have assembled here and the intriguing premise for the film, this is no doubt a must see. It’s shaping up to be one hell of a film and Stone’s involvement only increases my excitement.
