It’s getting down to the wire for fans to pick a side between Captain America and Iron Man, and Entertainment Weekly is helping draw a line in the sand with a collection of new covers for Captain America: Civil War.
The covers (gallery below) come celebrating the popular magazine’s Summer Movie Preview issue, and will provide fans four separate options to choose from (or collect) on each side of the fray depicted in the film. On Cap’s side one cover depicts Hawkeye, Winter Soldier, and Scarlet Witch, while the other shows Cap himself alongside buddy Falcon and Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man.
They’re all doing battle with Iron Man, Black Widow, and Iron Patriot (on the first cover for Iron Man’s side), and newcomer Black Panther and Vision on the second cover for Team Iron Man.
Speaking with EW, Chris Evans noted that it’s important to understand that the argument at the center of the film isn’t one built out of animosity between each side, but more so related to “a struggle with your family.” He ultimately (and hilariously) related Civil War to some kind of heightened version of a particularly tense holiday dinner:
“This is an argument and a struggle with your family, for your family, and against your family,” says Chris Evans. Normal people may not settle their quarrels by hurling each other through walls, but the actor says the emotional deathmatch in Civil War is just an exaggerated version of an ultra-tense holiday dinner. “I think it’s much more relatable, much more akin to [disputes] we have in life,” Evans says. “Arguments with your family can be far worse than struggles with your enemy.”
Elsewhere in the issue, fans will be able to read about how Kevin Feige and directors Joe and Anthony Russo figured out #TeamCap and #TeamIronMan (it sounds like what we probably all did) and even comment on why some particular superheroes aren’t joining the Civil War fray.
