Evidence continues to mount that Marvel is putting together a project based on Namor The Sub-Mariner – but will it hit screens big or small?
Nipping at the heels of yesterday’s rumor, one which claimed the studio is currently scouting locations in Hawaii – current home of The Inhumans TV series – Production Weekly has today dredged up a new report that lists “Sub-Mariner” as an IP teetering on the edge of production. As CBM points out, this is similar to how we uncovered X-Men: Supernova to be the next mainline mutant project from Fox, even if it’s subject to a name change before it’s summoned in front of the cameras later in 2017.
Circling back to the big question, though, it’s still unclear whether Marvel’s Namor The Sub-Mariner project will take the form of a feature film or a live-action TV series. Based on the current MCU slate, there are three as-yet-mysterious films booked in for 2020, though given how Namor is a relatively obscure character in the grand scheme of things, we’d wager that the studio is more likely to establish his maritime adventure on the small screen a la Cloak and Dagger, Runaways, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. All of this is just conjecture for now, of course, but we’ll be keeping tabs on this story as it develops. If nothing else, it all but confirms that the rights to The Sub-Mariner have now reverted back to Marvel, after they were acquired by Universal back when the former was experiencing financial woes.
A live-action rendition of Namor The Sub-Mariner seems to be closer now than ever before, but do you think the time is right for Marvel to resurrect their long-forgotten hero? Sound off below with your thoughts!
