Earlier today we were treated to a pre-trailer for the upcoming Evil Dead remake to whet our appetites. Now we can feast, as Screen Gems has brought the film’s first Red Band trailer online (via IGN) and it looks deliciously gory.

In the remake of the classic cult horror film, five friends in their twenties go on a weekend-getaway to a remote cabin in the woods. When they discover a Book of the Dead, and unknowingly summon demons from the surrounding woods intent on possessing their souls, their vacation turns into a fight for their very survival.

I’m a fan of the original but I’ve been dubious about a remake without classic Evil Dead star Bruce Campbell. After seeing the trailer I’ve changed my mind. It has the same feel of the original and includes the familiar camera tricks, the beautiful gore and violence, and over-top campy creepiness that made the first Evil Dead such a cult classic.

Directed by Fede Alvarez, the film stars Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Jessica Lucas and Elizabeth Blackmore.

The Evil Dead creeps into theaters on April 12, 2013.

Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think in the comments.
