Why You Should Be Excited For Matt Reeves’ The Batman

Now that War for the Planet of the Apes is upon us, its co-writer and director, Matt Reeves, will be moving onto another teeny-weeny project that you may have heard of: The Batman. Undoubtedly, this will be the biggest task of his career to date, because all eyes are on it and nothing less than sensational will cut it for fans of Gotham's Dark Knight. After all, he's following Christopher Nolan's award-winning trilogy, so no pressure there…

It Will Be Inspired By Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy

In another interview, Reeves confirmed that he’s inspired by how Nolan tackled the genre with The Dark Knight Trilogy. If he does manage to capture the same spirit and originality that Nolan did, Reeves’ film will undoubtedly be a classic in its own right. It’s a tall order for any filmmaker, but his work speaks for itself.

There’s no denying that Nolan changed the landscape of the superhero film genre with his trilogy, and got the world to sit up and take notice of comic book-inspired movies. If it wasn’t for his efforts, we probably wouldn’t be here discussing the DCEU or the MCU today. That said, it is time for another game-changing comic book movie to blow everything else out of the water and get the film snobs to take notice again. Could it be The Batman, though?

Being inspired by Nolan is never a bad thing for any filmmaker, and we’re certainly delighted that Reeves mentioned his name and not Joel Schumacher’s. The Dark Knight is the gold standard for any superhero film, so it’ll be interesting to see if this new Bat flick manages to dethrone it as the best live-action comic book movie of all-time.
