Solo: A Star Wars Story Scribe Reveals Anthony Daniels’ True Role In The Film

Writer Lawrence Kasdan has revealed in a recent interview with Uproxx who Anthony Daniels is playing in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Every Star Wars fan knows who Anthony Daniels is. He’s the actor who brought the beloved droid character C-3PO to stunning life, and he’s the only individual to appear in every film set in that galaxy far, far away. His latest screen credit, of course, is Ron Howard’s upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story, but the pic was recently revealed to be the first Star Wars movie not to feature C-3PO in any capacity.

In a recent interview with Uproxx, writer Lawrence Kasdan revealed that Daniels will instead portray a Wookiee who joins forces with Chewbacca in the spice mines of the planet Kessel (a place, fittingly, that C-3PO feared in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope). Today, however, Kasdan revisited this piece of information and revealed that he was misunderstood in the aforementioned interview, saying:

“In the escape from the Kessel Mines, Anthony does not play [the] Wookiee, Sagwa, but rather his best friend, a human slave who beckons Sagwa…to join his escape route.”

Kasdan was apologetic about his initial lack of clarity, too, and made amends with fans by revealing a special piece of information about Anthony Daniels’ true role in Solo:

“[Daniels’ character i]s named Tak in homage to legendary DP Tak Fujimoto. And that’s an exclusive…I’m not even sure Anthony knows his character’s name.”

The concept of Daniels playing a human character in Solo is definitely an intriguing one. The actor’s only other human role in Star Wars canon is Dannl Faytonni, a background character who appears in 2002’s Attack of the Clones. It’ll also be interesting to see how Lucasfilm changes up Daniels’ look so fans will be able to differentiate between this older character and the new one, Tak.

Fans of Anthony Daniels can look forward to seeing him on the big screen once more when Solo: A Star Wars Story soars into theaters on May 25th, 2018.
