In case you haven’t heard – and how could you not have, with all the marketing that’s been done? – the Power Rangers are being rebooted. Yes, it’s true, Lionsgate is bringing back those Mighty Morphin heroes for a modern audience and they’ve assembled quite a cast to do so.
Alongside a promising line-up of young faces stands Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Banks and Bill Hader, all ready to lend their talent to what looks like a potential franchise starter. After all, reports say that there are already five sequels planned, so you have to imagine that studio execs are hoping that this first outing is able to deliver at the box office this weekend.
Directed by Dean Israelite, the lavish actioner places five relative newcomers in the title roles. They are, in no particular order, Naomi Scott (Pink Ranger), RJ Cyler (Blue Ranger), Becky G (Yellow Ranger), Ludi Lin (Black Ranger), and Stranger Things star Dacre Montgomery as Jason (Red Ranger), five drifters who come together for the greater good when Rita Repulsa (Elizabeth Banks) descends on Angel Grove.
At the recent press day for the film in Toronto, we had the chance to sit down with Montgomery, Lin and Scott to talk all things Power Rangers. During our exclusive interview, they spoke about updating the property for today’s day and age, how familiar they were with the characters before filming began, what kind of crossover they’d like to see somewhere down the road and more. Hear what they had to say in the video above and be sure to check out Power Rangers when it morphs into theatres this Friday!
