Who knew Tom Hiddleston could sing? In I Saw the Light, the British actor lends his considerable vocal talent to play the legendary country singer/songwriter Hank Williams and simply shines in the role.
The biopic from writer/director Marc Abraham focuses on Williams’ rise to fame in the 1950s, from a local radio show personality to a Grand Ole Opry staple. It also examines his relationships with the women in his life, particularly first wife Audrey, played by Elizabeth Olsen.
Hank and Audrey were actually married and divorced twice and had a difficult time of it, mostly because Audrey wanted a singing career of her own and resented Hank’s constant absence while she stayed home with the children. However, things really go from bad to worse when Hank’s battle with alcoholism sends him into a spiral downwards – a battle Williams lost in 1953 when he died from heart failure at the age of 29.
We sat down with Olsen to talk about making I Saw the Light at the film’s recent press day. Among other things, she discussed how she tried to find sympathy for playing the strong-willed Audrey and what her Marvel comics character, Scarlet Witch, would think of Hiddleston’s Marvel character Loki.
Check out what she had to say in the video above and be sure to catch I Saw The Light as it’s now playing in theatres!
