The film stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen and Anthony Mackie as a trio of friends who have spent the past fourteen years searching for a great time in New York City on Christmas Eve. But now that tradition is coming to an end as adulthood proves to be inescapable for two of them, and this Christmas Eve looks to be their last one together. Still, nothing’s going to stop them from attending the craziest and most exclusive Christmas party that New York City has to offer.

At the recent press day for The Night Before, we had the chance to speak with Levine for an exclusive interview. During our discussion, he described the challenges of filming a holiday movie during a New York summer, how he handled the dynamics of the three main actors, how Michael Shannon got cast in a pivotal role, and what it took to create New York City’s most exclusive Christmas party.

Hear what Levine had to say in the video above and be sure to check out The Night Before when it arrives in theaters on November 20.
