Last time we saw Michael Shannon collaborate with Jeff Nichols, the pair crafted an intense, existential thriller in the form of Take Shelter, which itself featured a towering performance from Shannon himself.
Fast forward five years and we arrive at Midnight Special, an old-school sci-fi that revolves around Roy (Shannon), a caring, loving father struggling to come to terms with the unexplainable powers of his eight-year-old son Alton (Jaeden Lieberher) while risking everything to protect him from the various forces that want to capture the boy.
After premiering at SXSW to mostly positive reviews, the film is getting ready to hit theatres this week and at the recent NYC press day, we caught up with Shannon to talk about his role in the highly-anticipated sci-fi flick.
Check out what he had to say in the video above and be sure to catch Midnight Special when it releases on Friday!
