Assuming the role of a noteworthy comic book character that has a passionate fan base is no easy task. But Stephen Amell already knows that. The Canadian actor has played the role of Oliver Queen across five seasons on The CW’s massively popular Arrow. His series has also formed the base of an ever-expanding television universe based on DC comics characters that has now come to include The Flash and Supergirl.
So, when Amell was tapped to play Casey Jones in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, the second live-action film in the 21st century franchise reboot, he was keen and ready for the task ahead of him.
Late last week, we had a chance to catch up with Amell for an exclusive interview when the 35-year-old Toronto native returned to his hometown ahead of the release of the new Turtles movie. Among other things, he explained how he took on the part of such an iconic character, and how the sequel surpasses its predecessor by hitting the ground running and bringing audiences more excitement and goofiness.
Hear what he had to say in the video above and be sure to catch Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows when it opens on Friday, June 3.
