The Expendables 2 will be rated PG-13, due to co-star Chuck Norris not wanting to appear in a film with vulgar dialogue. While speaking to the Polish newspaper Kazeta, the actor said the following.
Playing in this movie was a lot of fun…(but) there was a lot of vulgar dialogue in the screenplay. For this reason, many young people wouldn’t be able to watch this….Due to that I said I won’t be a part of that if the hardcore language is not erased. Producers accepted my conditions and the movie will be classified in the category of PG-13.
Norris’ co-star, and the co-writer of The Expendables 2, Sylvester Stallone, agreed to change the script because he wanted the conservative Walker, Texas Ranger actor to appear in the sequel. Stallone has confirmed the PG-13 rating, but said the movie will still deliver action.
The PG-13 rumor is true…trust me when I say this film is large in every way and delivers on every level. This vie touches on many emotions which we want to share with the broadest audience possible.
The first film was rated R for strong action, bloody violence throughout and some language. Despite this, it opened at number one at the box office, eventually garnering over $274 million at the box office. With the majority of the original cast returning, and new additions such as Norris, Liam Hemsworth and Jean-Claude Van Damme, The Expendables 2 should have no problem recapturing the same success as its predecessor.
Be sure to catch the sequel when it hits theaters on Friday, August 17.
