More Fan Art Imagines Jake Gyllenhaal As Spider-Man: Homecoming 2’s Mysterio

More fan art has surfaced today which imagines Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio in Spider-Man: Homecoming 2, and we've gotta say, the actor looks quite good in the part.

Jake Gyllenhaal is now within arm’s reach of his first major comic book movie role. And we couldn’t be more excited about it.

News broke earlier this month that Gyllenhaal, star of films such as Stronger, Nightcrawler and The Day After Tomorrow, has come into contention to join Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 as Quentin Beck (AKA Mysterio), where he’ll presumably star opposite the returning Michael Keaton (Adrian Toomes/The Vulture).

Of course, the studio is yet to announce anything official, and it’d be foolish to rush to conclusions, but the mere fact that Jake Gyllenhaal is in talks for the role is exciting in and of itself – not least because he apparently jumped right to the tip-top of Marvel’s wishlist after Ryan Gosling (!) bowed out of the race for Mysterio.

And so, as we wait to learn more, we now have some new fan art which imagines Gyllenhaal in the part. It’s not the first piece we’ve seen nor is it likely to be the last, but it gives us a pretty good idea of how the villain may be realized on the big screen and is definitely worth a look.

We don’t need to tell you that an actor of Gyllenhaal’s caliber would be an incredible addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and we’ve already seen him indulge in darker material thanks to the likes of Donnie Darko, Prisoners and Nightcrawler. So, it’s understandable why fans are excited to watch him put his own spin on Quentin Beck – a villain who many have wanted to see on the big screen for a while now.

Still, until we get something from Marvel, all we know for sure at the moment is that Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 has been earmarked for release on July 5th, 2019, and it’ll signal the true beginning of the MCU’s Phase 4.
