The idea seems to have really caught the imagination of fans of the OG Spidey as the petition currently has 38,950 signatures and it’s growing larger and larger every minute. Owen Lee, who started it, wrote the following explanation for why he thinks it’d be cool for Maguire to return to the franchise, even in just a small role – which would, of course, callback to Peter Parker’s profession in Spider-Man 2.

“Think about how cool it would be to get the OG movie Spider-Man to make a cameo in the MCU as a pizza delivery guy. It could also open possibilities to the Spider-Verse in the MCU.”

Hilariously, one commenter has suggested that Maguire could even be delivering the pizza to Andrew Garfield, his successor in the role.

This sounds like a bit of ridiculous fan request here, but Spider-Man: Homecoming already showed us that director Jon Watts and his team get a kick out of meta casting choices. Michael Keaton as Vulture, for example, was a fun reference to his history playing winged superheroes (Batman, Birdman), Donald Glover as Miles Morales’ uncle was perfect as the actor famously campaigned to get himself cast as the character years ago, and Jennifer Connelly as the JARVIS-like A.I. Karen probably came about because she’s married to Paul Bettany, who plays Vision.

Tom Holland has already come up with an even better role for Maguire in the MCU Spidey films, too. The current web-slinger has suggested that the actor could play Uncle Ben in a flashback. Though younger than the usual depiction of the character, there’s only 10 years between him and Marisa Tomei (Aunt May), so it could totally work.

Listen to your leading man, Marvel, and make it happen. Maybe not in Spider-Man: Far From Home, but perhaps in the next one.
