Barring the last-minute clips and scintillating promos, Sunday’s grand trailer reveal was concrete proof that the Justice League marketing campaign is now beginning to enter the homestretch.
Set against a rather somber, yet fitting cover of David Bowie’s “Heroes,” the footage itself signaled Steppenwolf’s oncoming invasion, as the DC mega-villain waged war on Themyscira and its opulent army of Amazonians. Out of luck and out of time, Ben Affleck’s Caped Crusader then begins scouring the globe in search of allies, eventually cobbling together a team comprised of Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and Flash (Ezra Miller). And that’s where the fun really begins.
In fact, if you’ve been longing for Superman’s return, the third and final Justice League trailer opened with a dream sequence, one in which Lois Lane (Amy Adams) welcomes the Man of Steel onto Kent Farm, only to a wake up in a world devoid of hope. Sensing a power vacuum, it doesn’t take long before Steppenwolf declares war on Earth on Darkseid’s behalf, and previous trailers have already teased the inclusion of those all-powerful Mother Boxes.
And though Warner Bros. will likely exercise some restraint from here on in when it comes to showcasing new footage, ComicBook.com has shared a really rather beautiful fan-made poster for Justice League, and it’s all about the invading Steppenwolf. Flanked by an army of Parademons, we know WB plans to call upon CGI when rendering Darkseid’s nasty subordinate, so let’s just hope Ciaran Hinds’ mega-villain is as fearsome and effective as these trailers portend.
“I had a dream it was the end of the world.” Justice League descends into theaters on November 17th and as is tradition for a Hollywood comic book movie, it’ll contain a couple of post-credits scenes to leave audiences wanting more from the fledgling DC Extended Universe.
