Fans Are Petitioning Marvel To Change Ant-Man And The Wasp’s UK Release Date

Remember when Marvel surprised us all and pushed up the US release of Avengers: Infinity War so that everyone could see it at the same time, and not have to worry about spoilers leaking out from the UK as they were set to get it first? It was great, right? Well, unfortunately, it looks like fans once more find themselves in a pickle, but this time it's the other way around.

The studio’s next release is Ant-Man and the Wasp and right now, it’s set to land stateside on July 6th but those across the pond won’t be seeing it until August 3rd. That’s nearly a month gap and understandably, people in the United Kingdom are pissed. After all, spoilers will be flooding the internet at an alarming rate – as they always do with MCU films – and it’ll be near impossible to avoid them.

For that reason, one individual has now taken it upon himself to start a petition asking Marvel to change Ant-Man 2‘s release. Whether the studio listens or not remains to be seen, but here’s how it reads:

Marvel and Disney have decided to push “Ant-Man and The Wasp” back a month because of The World Cup. This means fans in the UK will get the movie a month after the rest of the world. True Marvel fans, like myself, are upset and disappointed by this, as after seeing the beauty that is “Avengers: Infinity War”, we want questions answered and more importantly, to enjoy the movie. How can we go a month without spoilers? You can watch the World Cup and watch a movie as well.

Seeing as Marvel moved the release of Infinity War up, we suppose there’s a chance they may do the same with Peyton Reed’s incoming sequel, but at the same time, we’d be surprised if they did. Joe and Anthony Russo’s event movie was on a whole other level in terms of spoilers and significant events. Sure, there will be lots going on in Ant-Man and the Wasp as well, but it won’t have the same ramifications for the MCU that the Avengers’ third team-up film did.

Either way, as Marvel’s final movie of 2018, and after the back-to-back success of both Black Panther and Infinity War, it’ll be fascinating to discover if Reed’s follow-up experiences a boon in box office receipts, given its opening under the shadow of what is essentially the biggest Marvel movie in the history of Marvel movies.

Expect Ant-Man and the Wasp to make a beeline for theaters on July 6th – in the US, at least – at which point we may discover that Peyton Reed’s sequel has stronger ties to Captain Marvel (and Avengers 4!) than we’ve been led to believe
