Let’s be honest for a minute – the first two Thor films were, largely speaking, rather forgettable. They weren’t downright awful, but they’ve been, for the most part, tossed aside by the fanbase due to their uninspired plot and characters.
Things took a much different turn in Thor: Ragnarok however, with director Taika Waititi ditching the over-reliance on Asgard and unimportant Earth characters for a colorful and downright hilarious romp through space. Not only did the New Zealand filmmaker revitalize the franchise, but he even lent his voice to Korg, who made a return in Avengers: Endgame.Â
As you can imagine, fans went wild earlier today after it was reported that Waititi would be returning to both write and direct Thor 4, which, at this point in time, does not have a proper title. Information is still scarce – we’re expecting Marvel to finally lift the curtain on Phase 4 of the MCU later this week during San Diego Comic-Con – but that didn’t stop fans from taking to Twitter to share their excitement.

Of course, we’re not entirely sure when Taika will get to work on another Thor movie. Right now, he’s presumably wrapping up production on Jojo Rabbit, a dark comedy-drama that follows a young German boy who comes to term with his blinding nationalism during World War II. He’s also directing an episode of The Mandalorian and acting in Free Guy, a Ryan Reynolds-led film that’s set to release in 2020.
Needless to say, it’ll probably be a few years until Thor 4Â sees the light of day, but we’ll be sure to keep you updated every step of the way.
