A subtitle like ‘The Crimes of Grindelwald’ brings to mind a dark and brooding tale of Dumbledore’s former flame, but the latest intel drop from Entertainment Weekly proves that Fantastic Beasts 2 is still fulfilling its quota of adorable little creatures.
Case in point: Baby Nifflers. Yes, the little critters with sticky fingers will be returning for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, the fantastical sequel from Warner Bros. and David Yates, and it seems Newt Scamander (a returning Eddie Redmayne) will have his hands full with an entire litter of the coin-obsessed beasts. Well, we say beasts when really we mean fuzzy little minions.
Because down below, you’ll be able to see one straddling what appears to be the cork of an open champagne bottle – much to the amusement of Newt – while there’s also a piece of concept art to remind us that, yes, Nifflers come in a range of different colors. Suddenly, that fluffy Niffler from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them has some competition when it comes to pure, unbridled cuteness.
This being a Harry Potter movie, there are many more fantastic beasts yet to be introduced. Per EW, viewers can expect to lay eyes on a Kelpie, a Scottish underwater creature, the moose-like Leucrotta, and finally, an Augurey, an owl-like bird whose cry is said to foretell death. Let the foreshadowing commence…
Potter fans will be able to bear witness to The Crimes of Grindelwald from November 16th. And after that? Three more movies set in the Fantastic Beasts universe, which proves that, even after 20 years, J.K. Rowling’s rich world of witchcraft and wizardry is still every bit as enchanting as it was in ’98.
