Anchorman co-stars Will Ferrell and Steve Carell have already found a follow-up project for after they shoot the highly anticipated sequel to their 2004 comedy smash. Deadline reports actor/writer Justin Theroux will direct both comedy vets in a film called Swear to God.
The film will center on Ferrell’s character, a “narcissistic hedge fund manager who thinks he has seen God.” The story comes from Due Date writers Alan Cohen and Alan Freedland, but Theroux has also been hired to do a rewrite.
Theroux, who had major comic supporting roles in Your Highness and February’s Wanderlust, is probably more known for his writing prowess, having made his writing debut on Tropic Thunder and serving as the lone screenwriter on Iron Man 2. Most recently, he has been tapped to write and direct Zoolander 2, which is expected to arrive in 2014.
The news comes a day before Ferrell opens his new comedy The Campaign, also starring Zach Galifianakis.
Adam McKay will produce Swear to God along with Ferrell.
