Chris Hemsworth Says Playing Fat Thor In Avengers: Endgame Made Him Feel Pregnant

Avengers: Endgame sprang one of the biggest surprises in MCU history by introducing us to Fat Thor. The Viking superhero had become almost more famous for his good looks and awe-inspiring physique than his powers. That was why it was even more shocking to see Thor make a final appearance at the end of the Infinity Saga of the MCU looking more like a boozy Santa Claus than the King of Asgard.

What helped pull the look off was how much fun Chris Hemsworth was obviously having while wearing the fat suit and portraying a Thor who’s let himself go. In fact, the actor has now revealed that playing the role had unexpectedly opened him up to another part of the human experience that escapes most men: Becoming pregnant.

Hemsworth has become used to still being asked about his role in Avengers: Endgame, even months after the film’s release to overwhelming acclaim and subsequent annihilation of most box office records. And recently, when asked yet again what it felt like to wear the padded suit, the actor joked that he now knows how his wife felt during pregnancy.

“It weighed around 40kg so it was very heavy. It’s a silicon sort of prosthetic suit with a zip at the back, and at any moment people would come up and rub my stomach. I know how my wife feels now when she was pregnant!”

That’s not all, though. In order to give him the gait of a naturally obese man, weights were attached to his legs and arms as well. Instead of impeding his performance, however, the additional cosmetics allowed Hemsworth to free himself from prior expectations of who Thor is, and add entirely new layers to the character.

The actor finished off by confirming that he’d love to play the God of Thunder again, as well as appear in the Guardians of the Galaxy threequel. Although, he has no idea when the film’s going to begin shooting and with James Gunn still busy with The Suicide Squad, it unfortunately may be a while.
