Three weeks ago, we brought you the news that production on YA sequel The Maze Runner: The Death Cure had been shut down due to an on-set accident involving series lead, Dylan O’Brien.
20th Century Fox’s official statement regarding the accident revealed that O’Brien had suffered a concussion, facial fracture and lacerations when a motorcycle stunt went horribly wrong. There’s more positive news to report today, though, with director Wes Ball – who returns for the third installment – confirming that O’Brien will be back in action in six weeks’ time.
A Tweet from Ball’s account touched base on the actor’s healing process, while E! caught up with O’Brien’s co-star Giancarlo Espositio during the premiere of Jon Favreau’s The Jungle Book.
“He’s healing very well. He got put together a couple of weeks ago… He’s one tough cookie. He got his bell rung. I would imagine many who witnessed thought that was it… [But] he’s a survivor. The one good thing about Dylan that I think is going to help him get back on schedule with us very soon is he has a great attitude.”
For now, The Maze Runner: The Death Cure remains tethered to the original February 17, 2017 release date. If and when that changes to factor in the two month production delay, we’ll let you know.
