And then there were six. According to THR, Marvel’s search for the next Spider-Man is nearing a close and has now been boiled down to six young hopefuls: previously rumored actors Asa Butterfield and Tom Holland are on the list, as well as relative newcomers Judah Lewis, Matthew Lintz, Charlie Plummer and Charlie Rowe.

Holland and Butterfield are the two biggest contenders here, having had roles in high-profile films like The Impossible and Ender’s Game, respectively. I wouldn’t count the other four out though, as Marvel has a history of going for newcomers and underdogs (Chris Hemsworth and Charlie Cox, anyone?)

So, who are these new potential web heads? Lewis will next be seen in Dallas Buyers Club director Jean Marc-Vallee’s new drama, Demolition, opposite Jake Gyllenhaal and Naomi Watts. Lintz’s talents can be seen a bit sooner than that, as he has a role in this summer’s Pixels. Plummer and Rowe are primarily television actors, who’ve had roles on Boardwalk Empire and Red Band Society, respectively.

Butterfield was previously thought to have snagged the role, but those reports appear to have been premature. According to the new update, Marvel is “in the midst of their decision,” after searching worldwide and looking at “over 1,500 boys.” Testing for the role took place in Atlanta, where Spidey’s MCU debut, Captain America: Civil War, is currently shooting.
