“We ride together, we die together… Bad Boys for life.”

Detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett will soon be back in business, as Martin Lawrence recently signed on for Bad Boys 3 (official title: Bad Boys For Life) alongside fellow series stalwart Will Smith.

The fast-talking duo were last seen on the big screen together back in Michael Bay’s Bad Boys sequel, which arrived in 2003. It’s been a long time coming then, but the franchise is finally moving forward with its next outing and Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah will both be calling the shots from behind the lens, after the creative pair replaced Joe Carnahan in the director’s chair(s).

Suffice it to say, it’s been a frustrating and meandering journey for Bad Boys For Life so far, but now that production’s on the verge of getting underway, we have the very first synopsis for the threequel, which sheds some light on what to expect.

The new installment centers on the Miami PD and its elite AMMO team’s attempt to take down Armando Armas (Scipio), head of a drug cartel. Armando is a cold-blooded killer with a vicious, taunting nature. He is committed to the work of the cartel and is dispatched by his mother to kill Mike (Smith). Nuñez will take on the role of Rite, the tough and funny criminal psychologist who is the newly appointed head of AMMO and Mike’s former girlfriend- and the one who got away.

Though that synopsis paints the film’s story as a bit generic and run of the mill, Sony’s apparently pretty confident in the script from writer Chris Bremner, who’s said to have “delivered the right mixture of action set pieces and laughs.” And though Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah aren’t exactly household names, they did some impressive work on FX’s Snowfall and will also be handling Beverley Hills Cop 4.

All things considered, then, we’re hopeful that everyone involved will be able to recapture the magic of the original film (the sequel was a bit messy) with Bad Boys For Life. After all, given how old Lawrence and Smith are now, this is very likely the last time we’ll be seeing them in these roles.
