First ‘Cocaine Bear’ reactions promise exactly the movie everyone’s expecting to see

We all knew from the first announcement.

The sentiment surrounding Cocaine Bear, now that the internet has seen its first wave of early reactions, is something of a Matryoshka doll. We knew exactly how this film would be received by proxy of the title telling us exactly what we’re in for, and the early receptions have confirmed that this is, in fact, exactly the film we expect in turn.

In case the title doesn’t somehow convey the essence enough, Cocaine Bear follows the benumbing adventures of a 500-pound American black bear after it swallows a duffel bag full of cocaine, sending it on a blood-drenched voyage across a small Georgia town, where the residents do everything in their power to survive this spur-of-the-moment bender.

It’s a truly ridiculous premise for a film despite being based on a true – if extremely watered down – story, but according to Twitter, Cocaine Bear itself would be the first person to acknowledge that.

Another user would go on to dub the titular apex predator as the uncontested star of the film, who apparently steals the spotlight with every passing moment of screentime. Considering the film has gone the M3GAN route and given the mammal its own Twitter account, this take probably isn’t a very hot one.

At the end of the day, everyone involved with Cocaine Bear seemed to be staunchly aware that they had marketing gold on their hands with just the concept alone, and it doesn’t sound like they wasted a single nugget of it.

And with the film right on our doorsteps, we’ll all get to snort up this cocaine-filled, bear-filled romp of absolute cinema in the blink of an eye.

Cocaine Bear will release to theaters on Feb. 24.
