Star-Lord and Co. have their backs against the wall in the official first poster for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Hailing from James Gunn’s social channels, the monotone one-sheet features Guardians big and small, including a tiny little Baby Groot nestled against Chris Pratt’s boot. He’s apparently a more “goofy and adorable” character since his regeneration process began, with Vin Diesel teasing that Guardians 2 will have the budding sprout “running around the screen and just learning as he goes.” Count. Us. In.

Also included in the photo below are Yondu (Michael Rooker) and Nebula (Karen Gillan), the other adopted daughter of Thanos who could land a solo movie of her own. That’s still up in the air, of course, and considering that fans have been longing for that fabled Black Widow spinoff for half a decade, it remains to be seen whether Marvel will commit to James Gunn’s pitch.

However that may be, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 remains the priority for the time being. Introducing fans to a father-son dynamic between Peter Quill and Kurt Russell’s Ego the Living Planet, Gunn’s 2017 sequel has also welcomed Pom Klementieff into its ranks. She’ll be playing Mantis, a new threat who calls out the Guardians amid the fallout from the battle of Xandar.

It’s a “very complex” story, according to Russell, though Chris Pratt even went so far as to suggest that Guardians 2 could well go down as the “biggest spectacle movie of all time.” Did we mention yet that we’re excited?

With a fresh mix of fist-pumping power ballads in tow, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will zoom into theaters on May 5, 2017.
