While we’ve already gained an admittedly blurry glimpse of the eccentric character via a marketing poster for Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four retelling, today Empire has unveiled the first official image showcasing Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm — aka The Thing — and he means business.

Largely retaining the same aesthetic from the last cinematic rendition, Grimm’s superpowered alter-ego is still a force to be reckoned with. However, that’s just going off of this new-fangled screenshot, as it’s understood that Trank and the production team had Bell don the motion capture suit in order to perfect the demeanour of the character on screen, ultimately creating a more natural performance.

Grimm isn’t the only point of interest with today’s story, though, as the outlet also published two new Fantastic Four images that shed more light on the quartet’s venture into a parallel dimension. As the reveal trailer alluded to, it is here that the titular group gain their most mysterious abilities, and the third and final screenshot indicates that stumbling into such power won’t exactly be a breezy walk in the park.

Josh Trank will lift the lid on his reimagining of Marvel’s First Family when Fantastic Four debuts in theaters on August 6. In the meantime, you can get an early look at Bell’s The Thing along with those aforementioned new screenshots using the gallery below.

THE FANTASTIC FOUR, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.
