First Shazam! Trailer Confirmed For San Diego Comic-Con

What with director James Wan confirming via Twitter the first Aquaman trailer will finally see the light of day at the "largest convention of its kind in the world,” and footage from Wonder Woman 1984 expected to make an appearance, it honestly does look to be DC’s year at the convention, finally. And I’m happy to report; the pot got even sweeter today.

Whether or not Zack Snyder will indeed announce his long-fabled director’s cut of Justice League at San Diego Comic-Con next week, it doesn’t appear to matter anymore. Warner Bros. has apparently gotten the message from a disgruntled fanbase and ironically, the man who once held creative control over their entire operation was the one who delivered the sorely needed kick in the pants.

What with director James Wan confirming via Twitter that the first Aquaman trailer will finally see the light of day at the “largest convention of its kind in the world,” and footage from Wonder Woman 1984 expected to make an appearance, it honestly does look to be DC’s year at the convention, finally. And I’m happy to report, the pot got even sweeter today.

While there’d been rumblings that the first Shazam! trailer would grace San Diego Comic-Con with its presence, we now have confirmation that Billy Batson will indeed be stopping by. We know this because cinematographer Maxime Alexandre took to social media late this afternoon and corroborated an earlier report that not only will the trailer “drop Saturday, July 21,” but the movie will also be part of the DC Films panel.

The announcement couldn’t have come at a better time, seeing as our first official look at Zachery Levi in costume arrived earlier today and, ipso facto, hype for the David F. Sandberg-directed superhero flick is at an all-time high. Not to mention, Entertainment Weekly got the inside line on the film’s plot this afternoon, which you can read for yourself below:

“In the film, Billy (whose younger version is played by Disney Channel star Asher Angel) is assigned to a new foster home where he befriends comic book superfan Freddy. One day, Billy’s subway ride is interrupted by a mysterious Wizard (Djimon Hounsou) whose been searching for ages to find the right successor to inherit his powers. He reveals the teen’s been selected to gain an assortment of abilities, and all it takes is for Billy to say ‘SHAZAM!’”

Eyeing an April 5th, 2019 release date, Shazam! will tell the story of the teenage boy, Billy Batson (Asher Angel), who can transform into an adult superhero (Zachary Levi) using the titular magic word. As for the trailer, we imagine it’ll be made available online shortly after it debuts at Comic-Con and once it’s available, we’ll be sure to have it for you.
