Cast your mind back to December of 2017 and you may remember an interview with Simon Kinberg where the writer-director spoke candidly about the failings of X-Men: Apocalypse. Bryan Singer’s mutant misfire struggled to leave much of a mark on critics or at the box office and Kinberg vowed to make amends for that with Dark Phoenix, the 2019 prequel based loosely on Chris Claremont’s legendary comic book.
And yes, despite rumors to the contrary, it’s still on course for a release in February of 2019 – the same space once occupied by Black Panther, no less. That’s not too far away now, either, so it’s a bit surprising that we still haven’t really seen much from the film yet. Aside from a few photos – and, of course, some set pics – there hasn’t been a whole lot for fans to feast on. Presumably, though, that’ll soon change.
We already know that Fox showed off a trailer overseas the other week and word on the street is that the footage will make its way stateside next month. But if you just can’t wait that long, you’re in luck, as the preview has now leaked online.
So, what can we tell from this footage? Well, not a whole lot, unfortunately. There’s no sound, for one, and the fact that most of the view is obstructed means we only get brief glimpses of what’s going on on screen. Still, the fact that Fox is parading around a trailer means that it can’t be long before we get something official and once that happens, we’ll be sure to let you know.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix is currently undergoing extensive reshoots, which allegedly cost an additional $10 million, and will finally make its way into theaters on February 14th, 2019. At least, we hope that’s the case. Given how things have been progressing, though, we wouldn’t be surprised if it was hit with another delay.
